FRESNO, CA- City Manager Georgeanne White announced that Brock D. Buche (BOO-key) has been named the City of Fresno’s new Director of Public Utilities (DPU), effective May 13, 2022. He replaces Michael Carbajal, who left the City in January to accept a position as the Assistant General Manager for the Consolidated Irrigation District.
“His technical skills are top notch and he is calm and steady under pressure with a witty sense of humor,” said City Manager White.
Mr. Buche began his career with the City of Fresno in 1995, as an Engineering Technician II. Since that time, Buche has worked in several positions for the city and the private sector. He became Assistant Director for DPU over the division of Utilities Planning & Engineering in May 2019, a position he held until being appointed Interim Director for DPU earlier this year.
“Building off a twenty-two year career with the City of Fresno’s Department of Public Utilities, it is an honor for me to serve as its Director,” said Mr Buche. “I have been fortunate to live in a community that has enabled me to pursue an advanced college education and raise a family. The Mayor and City Manager have a laser-focused vision to carry out over the next several years, and it will require the department to be nimble on its feet to provide assistance in an equitable and appropriate manner. The department stands ready, and with their assistance and that of City Council’s, will be able to attain new levels of infrastructure renewal and replacement, facility master planning for the future, water supply development for drought resilience, as well as methodical and cost-effective responses to regulatory requirements. It is a privilege to lead and work alongside the entire Department of Public Utilities team of nearly 600 individuals that provide life’s essential services to the majority of the 543,000 citizens living in this amazing City we call home.”
As the City of Fresno’s Director of Public Utilities, Mr. Buche will be responsible for the operation, maintenance, and long-range planning of water, wastewater, and solid waste. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree from CSU, Fresno in Surveying & Photogrammetry and a Master of Science Degree. also from CSU, Fresno, in Civil Engineering. He holds State of California registrations as a Professional Land Surveyor and a Professional Engineer.
