Why is my address changing?
On March 9, 2023, the Fresno City Council chose to approve the
renaming of portions of California Avenue, Ventura Street and Kings Canyon Road to Cesar Chavez Boulevard. Below are the areas approved for renaming:
- California Avenue – Marks Avenue to Hughes Avenue and West
- Avenue to Mayor Avenue
- Ventura Street – Mayor Avenue to Cedar Avenue
- Kings Canyon Road – Cedar Avenue to Peach Avenue
What is my council district and what council districts are affected by the street name change?
- To find out what council district you live in, go to https://www.fresno.gov/citycouncil/#city-council-district-locator
- The Council Districts within the Cesar Chavez Boulevard street name change project are Council Districts 3, 5 and 7
How is my address changing?
- The only thing that is changing to your address is the street name. All other information of your address will remain the same.
Example: If your address is 555 Ventura Street, Fresno, CA 93721 – it will now be 555 Cesar Chavez Boulevard, Fresno, CA 93721.
Do I need to notify USPS of my street name change?
- No, you do not need to do a change of address. The United States Postal Service already aware of your street name change.
Will my old address still work?
- Yes, your old address will still work to receive mail for up to 18 months.
How will carriers (UPS, FedEx, etc) know of the address change?
- When the USPS updates their database, they will be notified through the National Address Database.
Do I need to notify PG&E of my address change?
- No, the City of Fresno Planning Department will notify PG&E for you
Do I need to notify the Department of Public Utilities (DPU)?
- No, your new address information for DPU – water, sewer, solid waste collection is already updated in our system.
The City will notify the following utilities of your street name change:
- City of Fresno Department of Public Utilities (Sewer, Water, Solid Waste)
- Fresno County Tax Assessor
- City of Fresno Business License and Tax Office
- PG&E
- Fresno County Emergency Medical Services
- Including Fresno Police Department, Fresno Fire Department, 911 and

- Including Fresno Police Department, Fresno Fire Department, 911 and
Voter Registration:
- The City of Fresno will notify the Fresno County Board of Elections to update your voting records to reflect your new address.
IRS
- Update your address on your next tax filing on Form 8822
Passports
- No address change is required until passport is expired
TSA PreCheck/ US Customs / Border Protection’s Global Entry Program
- You will need to contact each of these agencies to change your address if you are registered
What do I need to do if my street is renamed?
- Update your banking information to reflect your new address
- Update your Drivers License with California DMV to reflect my new address
- Notify your credit card companies of your new address
- Update your subscriptions with your new address
- Send a change of address notification to your contacts
- Update all insurance agencies – Health, dental, life, car, house and renters insurance
- Update your phone/cell phone company of your new address
- Update your internet, TV cable or satellite provider
Do I need to physically visit the offices of my service providers to change my street name?
- Most changes can be made over the phone or online.
Social Security
- Address change is required if you are collecting Medicare benefits. The change can be made online at https://www.ssa.gov
- If you are collecting SSI, the address change must be made in person

- Go to https://www.dhcs.ca.gov/keep-your-Medi-Cal/Pages/Update-myinformation.aspx to update your address
When can I start making changes to reflect my address?
- You can start making changes to reflect your new address when you see the physical street signs installed on your section of Cesar Chavez Boulevard

How can I apply for Business financial assistance?
Businesses can apply through our website at www.fresno.gov/ccb to apply for financial assistance to offset costs associated with the Cesar Chavez Boulevard street name change of up to $200 for qualifying businesses until funds are depleted or by the deadline of December 31, 2024.

In the next few weeks, the contractor hired by the City of Fresno will begin to install the Cesar Chavez Boulevard street signs with a completion by Fall 2024.
