A proud Sanger native and Fresno State Alumni, Claire Carrillo holds a B.A. in Media, Communications, and Journalism with an emphasis in Public Relations. With a strong foundation in local agency work, she brings a well-rounded background in strategic communication, brand messaging, and public engagement.

In her current capacity as Communications Director for District 4 of Fresno, she oversees a range of initiatives focused on enhancing public outreach, promoting transparency, and advancing the city’s communication efforts.

In her spare time she enjoys traveling, art museums, and spending time with loved ones.

Mary Haskin is a lifelong Fresno resident and dedicated community leader whose passion for public safety and neighborhood empowerment has shaped local initiatives for over two decades. With a strong foundation in grassroots organizing, Mary has been instrumental in relaunching, developing and managing the Neighborhood Watch program in Fresno. The program fosters collaboration between residents, city and county departments, and agencies since 2021.

A skilled communicator and strategist, Mary brings clarity and compassion to every conversation—whether drafting privacy policies, building coalitions for joint funding proposals, or recognizing the everyday heroes in her community. Her leadership reflects a steadfast commitment to ethical governance, inclusive outreach, and tangible, lasting impact.

Mary is known for her ability to bridge sectors, empower block captains, and turn civic engagement into a powerful force for change. Her work continues to build trust, safety, and resilience across Fresno’s neighborhoods, one connection at a time.

Kia Kelly Vang

Kia Vang was born and raised in Fresno, CA and is the proud daughter of Hmong refugees. She earned her B.A. in Political Science with a minor in Media, Communications, and Journalism from Fresno State. During her studies, Kia served as President of the Alpha Kappa Psi, Gamma Lambda chapter and was a Maddy Legislative Intern Scholar with offices of the U.S. House of Representatives and the California State Senate.

After graduation, Kia began her career in the California State Senate where she served the Central Valley for two years. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, trying out new restaurants, and spending time with friends and family.”

Shawn Clark

Shawn Clark, born and raised in Fresno, CA, is a proud graduate of Fresno State, where he earned a BA in Political Science and a Graduate Business minor. Through his involvement with the Maddy Institute, Shawn had the opportunity to work in both the US House of Representatives and the US Senate. He furthered his education at California State University, Dominguez Hills, earning a Master of Public Administration Degree with a concentration in Public Management. Before joining Councilmember Maxwell’s staff, he served as an educator at San Joaquin Memorial High School. In his free time, Shawn and his fiancée devote their efforts to fostering dogs, providing much-needed care and love for animals in need.
