Message from Public Works Director Scott Mozier

Welcome to the City of Fresno Public Works Department, where we have approximately 380 employees dedicated to the mission of Building a Better Fresno. We are a diverse department made of six operating divisions who work in close coordination to deliver services to our 540,000 residents every day. We are responsible for the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of our network of expressways, major arterials, neighborhood streets, bicycle lanes, and trails throughout the City.

We deliver public infrastructure projects in a timely and cost-effective manner for a variety of City departments and for a wide variety of projects such as parks, sewer, and water facilities, public buildings, street resurfacing, pedestrian/bicycle projects and traffic flow improvements. We maintain not only the 3,700 lane miles of streets but also the sidewalks, street lighting, traffic signals, street sweeping operations, landscaped median islands and buffers, parks and open space landscaping, our urban forest of street trees, trails and numerous City buildings. Our graffiti team provides timely response to all graffiti calls throughout the city with a 7-day operation. We review, approve and inspect all improvements in the public right-of-way for new residential, commercial and industrial development throughout the City.

The Department also oversees the Citywide Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) program and facilitates meetings for the Disability Advisory Commission (DAC) and the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC). We hope you find the information you need on our web site and welcome any questions you may have.
