Cooling and Warming Center Policy

City of Fresno Ordinance # 2023-320 requires that the City operate community centers as warming and cooling centers according to the requirements set forth in the ordinance. The determination to open centers is made according to the forecast issued by the National Weather Service’s San Joaquin Valley Office, which can be viewed at https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lat=36.7317&lon=-119.7859.

According to the ordinance, cooling centers will open when temperatures are forecasted to reach or exceed 105 degrees Fahrenheit and will be open from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Warming centers will open when temperatures are forecasted to drop below 35 degrees and will be open from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.
