Some Things You Will Learn In This Class:

  • An introduction to statistics for Fire and EMS (without the difficult math)
  • Use of Excel for analyzing Fire and EMS operations-related data
  • Visual representations (tables and graphs,) which to use and when
  • Understanding the special considerations with small data
  • Best practices in Fire and EMS data quality
  • Methods for setting realistic performance objectives
  • Methods for consistently identifying and handling outliers in data
  • Methods for calculating effective response force and unit concentrations
  • Understanding and calculating percentiles and NFPA compliance rates
  • Methods for evaluating units’ order of arrival at scene, unit and system reliability
  • Understanding the basics of correlation & relationships between variables
  • Pivot tables, filtering, sorting and summarizing
  • Methods and best practices for use of statistics in fire service performance

Material Required:  Laptop Computer with MS Excel

Course Attire:  Work uniform or business attire

Dates and Times: April 25 – 27, 2023, 08:30–16:30 hours

Enrollment:  The course fee is $600. Class will be filled on a first come, first served basis with a maximum of 20 students. A convenience fee of 2.3% will be applied to all credit card payments. If paying by check, make it payable to the Fresno Fire Department (FFD). Please note the course name in the memo section of the check. FULL PAYMENT is required to complete registration and reserve a seat. Deadline for registration is  April 17, 2023, or until filled.

Cancellation and Refund Policy:  FFD may cancel classes for insufficient registration and issue a full refund. If a student must cancel registration, notify FFD as soon as possible. Cancellations are subject to a $50 non-refundable administrative fee. No refund will be given if a student cancellation occurs within seven (7) days prior to the course start date.
