1. Who is eligible?
Locally owned brick and mortar restaurants located in the City of Fresno who are not part of a national chain or franchise and have a current business tax certificate.
2. How much funding can I receive?
The maximum amount of funding available per business is $15,000 and up to 75% of the total project cost. For example, if your total energy improvement project cost is $20,000, the city would provide you with a grant of $15,000 (75% of the total project cost).
3. Can I apply for multiple restaurant locations?
Yes. Each location will require a separate interest form. You will need to prioritize each location by order of importance.
4. My restaurant is located within a larger operation establishment (gas station, bowling alley, grocery store, convenience store, etc.), can I still qualify for this grant?
If your restaurant is a locally owned entity, separate from the host establishment, you may be able to qualify. This type of situation will require further research and documentation and will be handled on a case-by-case basis.
5. What can the funding be used for?
Funding shall be used specifically for pre-approved energy-related improvements such as but not limited to kitchen equipment upgrades, retrofits, HVAC, lighting, insulation enhancements, or any other energy saving measures. Funding may not be used for employee salaries, inventory, mortgage/rent, insurance, other overhead expenses, or any other non-approved use.

6. Is there a deadline for this program?
We will accept interest forms until all funding has been exhausted.
7. Do I have to get permission from the building or property owner if I am provided funding to make necessary energy-related improvements?
Permission may be required depending on the energy-related improvements. It is always recommended to consult with the building or property owner.
8. What if I’ve already spent money to make my business more energy efficient. Can I apply for a refund or receive credit for work already done as part of my matching funds?
No. The grant funding can only be applied to future projects and approval must be received before moving forward with any energy-related purchases.
9. Can I apply for this grant for upgrades to my mobile food truck?
No. This program is being offered to brick and mortar restaurants only at this time.
