FRESNO, CA – Mayor Ashley Swearengin and City Manager Bruce Rudd today announced that Mark Standriff has been named the City of Fresno’s Director of Communications and Public Affairs.

“Mark brings a high level of professionalism and energy to our team,” Mayor Swearengin said. “His success as a communicator and knowledge of the region will be an important asset as Fresno builds its reputation as a strong and vibrant community.”

Standriff is a broadcast veteran of over 25 years and has become one of the most sought-after consultants in the nation, providing strategy and training for civic, government and political organizations. As a public information officer for the City of Toledo, Ohio, he was instrumental in helping the city earn All-America City status in 1998 and was charged with the marketing and public affairs programming for that prestigious award. His career in radio spanned almost 30 years and he continues to be a frequent guest host on a number of talk radio stations around California.

As the Director of Communications and Public Affairs, Standriff will work directly with the Office of the Mayor and Office of the City Manager to communicate city policy and facilitate communications between City departments. He will also oversee media relations, present City information through a variety of outlets, including broadcast and social media, and develop public awareness campaigns for City of Fresno programs and services. His first day is April 21, 2014.

"I’m thrilled to be joining the City of Fresno during such an exciting time of growth and opportunity,” said Standriff. “I’m ready to dive in and start sharing our success stories with the public and the press.”

Most recently, Standriff was Communications Director for the California Republican Party. He has been a member of the professional stage actor’s union, Actors’ Equity, and the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, as well as a board member of the Northern California Chapter of the National Speakers Association, the League of Sacramento Theatres, the Performing Arts Council of Toledo, and the Old Newsboys Goodfellows Association. He studied at the U.S. Air Force Academy and the University of Toledo, is married, and has two teenage children.
