Kevin Meikle Named City of Fresno’s Director of Aviation

Fresno, CA – Kevin Meikle, a 24-year City of Fresno employee and long-time leader in the City’s Airports Department, has been named the City of Fresno’s Director of Aviation, City Manager Bruce Rudd announced today.

Meikle, 55, has been serving as interim director of aviation since 2012. Meikle has worked in the Airports Department since 2002, serving as assistant director of aviation from 2011 to 2012 and Airports Planning and Engineering Manager from 2002-11. As assistant director, Meikle has been responsible for overseeing a number of major capital improvement projects that range from runway reconstruction to updating the baggage and handling system. Over the last year, he has been instrumental in attracting new air service and implementing other improvements to both Chandler and Fresno Yosemite International Airport.

“Kevin Meikle has built a strong record of accomplishment in his 11 years of experience in working with Fresno’s airports,” Rudd said. “His expertise, vision and innovative thinking will be critical in helping our Airports Department meet the complex challenges facing airports today and in the future.”

“It has been a privilege serving the City of Fresno for over 24 years, and I am humbled by the confidence shown in me by the City Manager and Mayor Ashley Swearengin,” Meikle said. “We have a great team in place that has the ability to move our airport forward in a challenging and constantly changing aviation environment.”

As Director of Aviation, Meikle is responsible for developing and implementing policies and procedures related to the operation, maintenance, long-range planning and fiscal management of Fresno Yosemite International Airport and Fresno Chandler Executive Airport.

Meikle earned a bachelor’s degree in architecture from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. His annual salary will be $148,000. As an unrepresented City employee, his salary is subject to a 3 percent reduction.

Ten carriers (AeroMexico, Allegiant, American, American Eagle, Delta Connection, Frontier Airlines, Horizon Air, United Express, US Airways, and Volaris) currently offer Valley passengers approximately 42 daily domestic and international departures from Fresno.
