City of Fresno Provides Question-and-Answer Document on Residential Solid Waste Franchise Implementation
FRESNO – The City of Fresno has developed a question-and-answer document in anticipation of frequent questions city residents may have about the franchise for collection of residential solid waste. City Council today took final action on creating the franchise.

When does this change go into effect?
Beginning Monday, March 4, 2013, your weekly trash (including garbage, recycling, and green waste) services will be provided by Mid Valley Disposal, the private business that was successful in the bidding process.

Do I need to do anything to transfer my account to the private hauler?
No, the City will provide your account information to Mid Valley, and they will seamlessly continue the service currently provided by the City with no change. If Mid Valley has any questions about your account once the City transfers it, they will contact you directly. Similarly, if you have any questions about your account, do not hesitate to contact them at (559) 843-2467.

What will my rates be with the private hauler?
For customers subscribing to a 64-gallon grey garbage cart, the price will be $15.81 per month (which is a 17.6% decrease from your current City rates).

For customers subscribing to a 96-gallon grey garbage cart, the monthly price will be $20.90, a 17.6% decrease from your current City rates.

Do I still pay my solid waste bill to the City of Fresno?
No, beginning in March, all bills will be paid directly to the hauler, Mid Valley Disposal. Mid Valley will separately bill you, and you will process your payment to Mid Valley as you would with any other monthly bill.

When will I get my bill each month?
Mid Valley will establish their billing cycle once they receive all of the customer account data from the City. They will be in contact with you directly to make sure you know about the timing of the monthly billing cycle.

Can I pay my bill online?
Yes. Mid Valley has an online bill payment system. More information on how to use this program will be provided in a welcome package that will be mailed to all customers in January.

Will my trash collection day change?
No, your service days will not change with the new hauler. For example, if you currently put your City bins out on Monday each week, you will continue to have service every Monday with the private hauler.

Who do I call if I have questions about this transition?
You can contact the City’s customer service department at (559) 621-1452 or Mid Valley Disposal at (559) 843-2467 and our representatives will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Who do I call if I have questions about my new service?
You can contact Mid Valley Disposal at (559) 843-2467 regarding future services.

The question-and-answer document will be available on the City’s website at Friday morning.
