| FRESNO – Mayor Ashley Swearengin today said a Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) proposal to offer a targeted rate reduction to promote economic development would provide an economic boost to Fresno and surrounding communities. PG&E today asked state regulators for the right to offer a competitive electric rate to attract employers to California and convince other employers in the state to maintain or expand their operations rather than leave. “By expanding our local businesses and attracting employers back to hard-hit communities in California, PG&E’s program will help jump-start an economic recovery that generates the jobs and growth we need for healthier communities,” said Mayor Swearengin, who approached PG&E several months ago to consider an economic development rate. “This program provides hope not only to Fresno, but to communities throughout Northern and Southern California that need help revitalizing their economic base >more |

| Local Companies are Focus of Fresno Food Expo Did you know that Jim Maxey of Fresno-based Certified Meat Products was one of the first suppliers to the McDonald’s hamburger chain that built its first franchised operation in Fresno? Or thattwo Fresno sisters started The Brownie Baker in the city in 1979 using a favorite family recipe for truly gourmet brownies and now distributes their products throughout central California? Those companies are among the approximately 85 exhibitors that will be providing a diverse offering of food products for about 250 buyers expected to attend the second annual Fresno Food Expo next month. While the offerings are diverse, the companies all have one thing in common: They are located in the San Joaquin Valley, the region for fresh, quality food. | Fresno, CA – The nine-member City of Fresno Charter Review Commission has released a report containing its recommendations on more than 50 items it considered during a six-month-plus study of the City’s Charter. The report includes the Commission’s recommendations on 23 Council-suggested charter revisions and more than 30 other policy suggestions that were offered during the course of its deliberations. The Commission, formed by a City Council vote in November 2010, met at least every month from July 26, 2010, to February 7, 2012, to consider the issues. >more |
