| With the Fourth of July celebrations underway, the City of Fresno’s Solid Waste Management Division would like to remind all residents of the proper disposal of their discharged fireworks. Although discharged fireworks are primarily made of cardboard and some plastic, they also include chemical residue which contaminates the cardboard. After fireworks are completely cooled by water and ready for disposal, they should be placed in the gray garbage cart, not the blue recycling cart. >more |

| Mayor Ashley Swearengin today praised Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer for his “incredible leadership” of the department and his “extraordinary record of accomplishment” over the past 10 years as chief. Chief Dyer today announced that he will retire from the department, effective June 30. | Mayor Calls on City Employees to Accept Wage Concessions Calling it an “important development” in helping the City address its budget challenges, Mayor Ashley Swearengin today said a proposal to establish a commercial solid waste franchise likely will move forward since, based on previous council votes, a majority of Fresno City Council now appears to support creation of the franchise. | The City of Fresno Code Enforcement Division, with grant funding available from the California Integrated Waste Management Board, will be holding two Waste Tire Amnesty Day events on Saturday allowing City residents to part with their unwanted waste tires. Only City of Fresno residents may participate in the events, and each resident is limited to nine tires. The City will NOT accept tractor or diesel tires or business-generated tires. >more |
