| Great news for Downtown Fresno! This week begins with some real momentum in our efforts to bring life back to downtown Fresno and the surrounding neighborhoods. Late Friday, the City announced that escrow closed in the purchase of one of Fresno’s iconic buildings, the landmark Pacific Southwest Building (formerly the Security Bank Building). The 315-foot-tall building is believed to be the tallest between San Francisco and Los Angeles and was the most expensive building built anywhere in California in the 1920s. | The Fresno City Council's ‘district redetermination procedures’ are automatically initiated after the publication of each federal census, as required by the City of Fresno’s Charter and Municipal Code. The Council District boundaries are proposed by City Administration, are developed using the Census’ population, and are based on the following criteria: 1) conform to State and Federal Law, 2) maintain the Districts’ populations as nearly equal as may be, 3) reflect census tract lines, streets, highways, railroad rights of way, waterways, or other natural or artificial barriers, 4) promote contiguity and compactness, and 5) as reasonably possible, locate “communities of interest” within the same district. The City Council adopted these new boundaries on August 25, 2011 and they become effective on September 25, 2011. >more |

| Losing Mayor Will Wear Opponent’s Jersey for a Day Mayor Ashley Swearengin and Berkeley Mayor Tom Bates today agreed to a friendly wager on the 2011 college football season opening game between Fresno State and the University of California at Berkeley in the TicketCity Battle by the Bay Saturday at Candlestick Park.
