03/22/10  City Announces Business Licensing Compliance Effort
Unlicensed businesses operating in the City of Fresno are being encouraged to come into compliance with local filing requirements over the next three months or face potentially steep penalties. In an effort to reduce revenue losses caused by unpaid taxes, the City has announced a Business License Amnesty Program through June 30 to promote voluntary registration. All businesses and professionals providing independent services within the City of Fresno (with a few limited exceptions) are required by law to maintain a valid business license. >more

03/12/10  City of Fresno Joins National “Fix a Leak Week”
With an average of over 10,000 gallons of water wasted per household annually and 1 trillion gallons wasted nationwide as a result of running toilets, dripping faucets, and other minor household leaks, the City of Fresno is joining the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) WaterSense effort by declaring March 15 – 21 as “Fix a Leak Week.”The national “Fix a Leak Week” campaign is an opportunity to encourage Fresno residents and businesses to improve their water efficiency by checking and fixing leaks. The effort also supports Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s call for stepped up conservation efforts and a 20% reduction of water usage in urban areas. “Educating the community on the critical importance of water conservation is a priority for the City of Fresno Water Division,” said Martin Querin, Assistant Director of Public Utilities >more

03/09/10  Mayor Announces Initiatives to Make Fresno More Business-Friendly; Increase Jobs
Mayor Ashley Swearengin today announced the establishment of a Blue Ribbon Task Force to monitor the implementation of an initiative to promote local job creation by making City Hall more business-friendly. The Task Force held its first meeting today to discuss the City’s plans to streamline its development review processes and timelines for investors looking to bring high-quality projects to Fresno. Upon taking office in January, 2009, Mayor Swearengin established the PIPES (Process Improvement and Permit Enhancement Strategy) initiative to address long-standing concerns about the City’s often lengthy and costly planning review process. >more

With the City of Fresno facing a potential $26.9 million shortfall for its fiscal year 2011 budget, City officials today presented City Council with an overview of potential cost-saving measures that are being considered to help close the gap. The City of Fresno would like to invite the media and community to join Council Member Lee Brand, Interim City Manager Bruce Rudd and PARCS Director Randall Cooper for a ribbon cutting and grand opening of Todd Beamer Park, 9797 N. Maple, in northeast Fresno, Friday, February 26, 2010 at 12:00pm. In addition, the City has coordinated a special call-in from David Beamer, father of Todd Beamer, the 9/11 hero for whom the park has been named. >more
