Winter Watering Schedule Begins Wednesday

Winter watering schedules go into effect today for all City of Fresno water customers to promote conservation during cooler weather. The rules permit landscape watering one day per week for residential and commercial customers with no restrictions on the time of day that watering can take place.

As the weather cools, often bringing fog and rain, the need for landscape watering is significantly reduced. Customers with odd-numbered addresses should water only on Saturdays while those with even-numbered addresses should water on Sundays.

City staff recommends customers water their grass and plants once every seven days for approximately five minutes per station on their assigned watering day, only if the landscape needs it. During rain events, automatic sprinkler timers should be off or set to pause mode.

In addition to following the required watering schedule, customers are encouraged to set automatic sprinkler timers off the hour, such as 10:43 p.m., 2:57 a.m. or 4:26 a.m. This approach prevents sprinklers throughout the City from going on at the same time, which can result in decreased water pressure to individual customers. It also helps to conserve energy by reducing the continuous switching of City pumps on and off to meet a sudden surge in water demand.

Representatives from the City of Fresno Water Division are available to visit customers and show them how to reset sprinkler timers. Customers can call (559) 621-5480 to schedule an appointment. For more information about the winter water schedule and water conservation, visit
