Tuolumne Street Bridge to be Closed Temporarily
City of Fresno officials today announced that the Tuolumne Street bridge, which spans from Broadway to F Street, will remain temporarily closed as a result of damage sustained in a fire Saturday.
City Public Works Department Director Patrick Wiemiller said the decision was made after careful inspection by the City’s engineers and a local licensed structural engineer. The engineers expressed full faith in the bridge’s ability to support its own weight, so there is no imminent danger of a collapse of the bridge. However, because of uncertainty about how much additional weight the bridge may be able to support, the City believes the closure of the bridge is the correct and appropriate option.
The bridge was built in 1958.
A memorandum was prepared by Public Works Director Patrick Wiemiller and distributed to the City Council for additional information.
