Volunteers Sought for Beautification Effort at City Parks

As a part of Mayor Swearengin’s on-going Serve Fresno initiative, the City of Fresno is seeking support from the public to help beautify Fresno’s parks. Beginning this Saturday, August 28, community volunteers are invited to help spruce up City parks in need of litter removal, flower bed raking, painting, pruning and other light tasks. Two parks will be identified each week for the project, which will augment the efforts of City maintenance crews.

Each Saturday from 8am to Noon, volunteer groups will be dispatched to two different park locations—one in north Fresno and one in south Fresno. Volunteers are encouraged to wear long pants, hats, gloves and sun block and bring plenty of drinking water. Basic work tools and supplies will be provided by the City of Fresno. Each volunteer will be required to complete a volunteer form and waiver.

This Saturday, volunteers are needed at Victoria West Park, located at 3861 W. Clinton and Figarden Loop Park, located at 4265 W. Figarden Dr.

Individuals interested in volunteering should sign up at www.servefresno.com or by calling 559-237-3101. Additional park clean-up locations for September and October will be posted on the Serve Fresno website. All volunteer hours contributed to the parks cleanup effort will be counted toward Serve Fresno’s goal of generating one million hours of volunteer service in 2010.
