FYI Earns “Outstanding Airport” Recognition
Fresno Yosemite International Airport (FAT) has been awarded the Outstanding Western-Pacific Airport by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for the significant contributions that have improved or enhanced safety within the Western-Pacific Region during the 2009 fiscal year.
The award is being presented to a representative of Fresno Yosemite International today during the 6th Annual FAA Airports Division Conference in Los Angeles, California.
Below are the FAA criteria for the award recipient:
- Outstanding performance in the administration of grants and/or performance/completion of projects under the Airports Improvement Program.
- The development/implementation of a specific program or activity that has improved airport safety.
- Achievements resulting in benefit to aviation users, such as capacity enhancement, or improvement to airport facilities.
- Other achievements of benefit to the region, including community outreach, intergovernmental cooperative efforts, or programs.
“This award is a testament to the outstanding efforts led by Airports Director Russ Widmar and the Airport staff,” Mayor Ashley Swearengin said. “Russ’ experience, vision, fiscal management, and commitment to providing our community with a safe, quality airport facility also benefits the entire region.”
FAT has consistently ranked in the top ten of 100 U.S. Airports for on-time performance and is one of a few airports with a Category III(b) Instrument Landing System that activates during extreme foggy conditions for enhanced safety. FAT is an airport industry leader in developing and implementing alternative solar energy, environmental sustainability, and it has recently completed major rehabilitation projects that have improved the airfield and the passenger terminal.
Additionally, FAT demonstrates its superior understanding of the FAA Airport Improvement Program through its grant administration and willingness to consistently work with all aviation stakeholders.
Eight carriers currently offer Valley passengers approximately 42 daily departures from Fresno. Fresno Yosemite International Airport is an industry leader in terms of cost containment to its partner airlines.
FYI is a municipally owned entity operating as a self-supporting enterprise. No City of Fresno general funds are used to operate Fresno Yosemite International or Fresno Chandler Executive Airport.
