Friant Road Southbound Lanes to Reopen Ahead of Schedule

City of Fresno Public Works Department officials today announced that southbound Friant Road from Shepherd to State Route 41 will reopen Friday, August 13, approximately six weeks ahead of schedule. All southbound lanes are expected to be open at approximately 2 p.m.

The $1.3 million project, funded through the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), was projected to take about 12 weeks but was completed in about half the time. It began on Tuesday, July 7.

The project included reconstruction of the southbound number two and three lanes, overlay of the number one lane, signage, striping, traffic loop detector replacements and adjustment of utility placements.

City officials said there will be ongoing construction activity, but all southbound lanes will be open with temporary striping.
