| Fresno Fire Chief Randy Bruegman has been honored for his career-long dedication and leadership in fire and emergency service by being named 2009 “Fire Chief of the Year”. The award was made in a presentation at the annual International Association of Fire Chief’s Fire-Rescue International Conference in Dallas, Texas. Fire Chief Magazine Editor Janet Wilmoth was joined by Pierce Manufacturing President Wilson Jones to announce the 14th annual Career Fire Chief of the Year award before a large crowd of chief officers representing fire departments from throughout the nation. >more |

| Mayor Ashley Swearengin today announced that the City of Fresno has hired Barrett Sports Group, a sports management consulting firm with expertise on a wide variety of sports industry issues, to develop and evaluate potential long-range solutions to the City’s lease arrangement with the Fresno Baseball Club, owners of the Fresno Grizzlies. “Barrett Sports Group has helped a broad range of public and private sector groups analyze and find solutions to complex financial issues,” Mayor Swearengin said. “We look forward to working with them on the City’s lease arrangement with the Fresno Grizzlies to assure that the team will continue to operate in downtown Fresno for many years to come while protecting the interests of Fresno taxpayers. >more |

| The City of Fresno, in partnership with Fresno Metro Ministries, would like to invite the media and public to join Mayor Ashley Swearengin, Council Member Mike Dages and PARCS Director Randy Cooper at Al Radka Neighborhood Park on Friday, August 21st, 2009 at 10:00am as the City launches its first community garden. The Fresno Parks, After School, Recreation and Community Services Department (PARCS) recently completed construction of 90 garden plots at Al Radka Neighborhood Park in Southeast Fresno. PARCS designed and developed the 10’x20’ garden plots with ADA accessible pathways, installed water access to each plot, created an area for composting and added a storage shed for gardeners to share. >more |

| Today, the City of Fresno was notified by the California Department of Public Health that a request for funds to modernize water infrastructure in the Herndon Town community has been approved. The City has been awarded a grant for $825,000 for Herndon Town work, which will provide clean and safe drinking water for residents of the small Northwest Fresno community Herndon Town, which was annexed into the City of Fresno in 1988, is served by a small, privately owned water company. Its pre-World War II water system is inadequate and unable to consistently provide reasonable water pressure to approximately eighty households in the community. >more |
