| Applications are being accepted for a new citizen’s committee to provide input on neighborhood planning issues in the downtown area. The committee will assist with the creation of a Downtown Neighborhoods Community Plan, encompassing the Lowell and Jefferson neighborhoods, among others, in southeast and southwest Fresno. | While new City of Fresno rules pertaining to the operation of restaurants, bars and nightclubs go into effect today, local patrons will see no immediate change in hours at their favorite establishment. The revised ordinance requires any business owner who wishes to operate under the new rules to apply for an updated Conditional Use Permit. Several businesses have inquired about the application process for an updated CUP but no approvals have yet been granted. >more |

| Citing the need to immediately address short-term budget challenges as well as long-term structural imbalances, Mayor Ashley Swearengin today presented to City Council a mid-year budget revision calling for a total of $27.8 million in reductions over the next 18 months. She also cautioned that an additional $4 million to $9 million in cuts may be required in fiscal year 2011 to balance the fiscal year 2012 budget. >more |

| The Fresno City Council on Thursday night established the City’s first residential water meter rate structure. The decision came at the conclusion of a well-attended public hearing and authorized water meter rates which will go into effect in 2010. The rate structure will transition over the next three years and will ultimately replace the City’s current “flat rate” charge for residential water use. >more |
