City Christmas Parade Honor National Champion Sunbirds Volleyball Team on Saturday - Eaton Plaza Festival Cancelled Due to Unstable Conditions

Although unstable weather has forced the cancellation of Christmas in the Park, a two-day festival scheduled for this weekend in downtown Fresno, the City’s 80th Annual Christmas Parade will continue as planned on Saturday. This week, Fresno Mayor Ashley Swearengin conferred the role of Parade Grand Marshal to the national champion Fresno Pacific Sunbirds women’s volleyball team.

The Sunbirds won their third consecutive national championship last week in Sioux City, Iowa. The team will lead the parade, riding on an antique fire truck provided by the Fresno Fire Department. Approximately 90 entries are scheduled to participate in this year’s Christmas parade, which steps off at 10 a.m. in downtown Fresno. The parade begins at Tulare and Van Ness Avenue and ends in front of Fresno City Hall. Parking is free.

Christmas in the Park, scheduled for Friday and Saturday, has been cancelled as a result of uncertain weather conditions. The potential for inclement weather posed safety concerns related to the operation of carnival rides and other activities.
