Mayor Swearengin to Participate in White House Meeting with President Obama, Vice President Biden

Fresno Mayor Ashley Swearengin will join more than 60 mayors from across the country at a White House meeting with President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden on Friday, Feb. 20.

The mayors also will meet with Attorney General Eric H. Holder, Jr., Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan, Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, Energy Secretary Dr. Steven Chu, Education Secretary Arne Duncan and White House senior staff.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to meet with President Obama, Vice President Biden and a number of Cabinet secretaries about solutions to the challenges that Fresno and other cities are facing,” Mayor Swearengin said.

The mayors’ meeting with President Obama and Vice President Biden will take place from 7:30 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. Pacific Time in the East Room of the White House and will be open to the press. The mayors also will hold a press availability at the White House immediately after the meeting at 8:30 a.m. Pacific Time at a location to be determined.

Following the White House meeting, the mayors will meet with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lisa Jackson, U.S. Department of Energy Weatherization Program Director Gil Sperling, and U.S. Department of Justice COPS Office Acting Director Tim Quinn. The meeting is closed to the press.

Mayor Swearengin was invited to the meeting by the White House and will join mayors from the U.S. Conference of Mayors, the official nonpartisan organization of cities with populations of 30,000 or more. Mayor Swearengin attended the U.S. Conference of Mayors winter meeting in Washington, D.C., in January.
