Independent Police Auditor Endorsed by Local Building Industry
Citing the importance of “preserving the high quality of public safety in our community,” local building industry leaders have endorsed the establishment of an Independent Police Auditor (IPA) for the City of Fresno.
In a letter to Mayor Ashley Swearengin, the Board of Directors of the Building Industry Association (BIA) of Fresno/Madera Counties said the IPA will provide greater transparency for the Fresno Police Department and will provide “additional assurances for our community that proper policies and procedures are being followed.” The letter was signed by BIA Chairman John Bonadelle and Vice Chairman Darius Assemi.
The Board also embraced the role an Independent Police Auditor would play in enhancing the effectiveness of the Police Department. Putting the IPA position in business terms, Board members said “we often find an unbiased independent review is helpful in making sure we are making sound decisions.”
“This support from our business community for an IPA reflects the goal we all share to strengthen public trust in our policing efforts,” Mayor Swearengin said. “I appreciate the leadership position the building industry has taken on this important issue for our city.”
The BIA represents builders, developers, subcontractors, and affiliated businesses in the residential, commercial, and industrial building industry throughout the greater Fresno area.
