Youth Leadership Symposium Designed To Inspire Fresno's Future Leaders
11/13/2008

The Parks, After School, Recreation & Community Services Department (PARCS) would like to invite the media to attend Fresno’s Youth Leadership Symposium: City County All Stars on Saturday, November 15, 2008 from 9am to Noon in the Council Chambers at City Hall. This event will bring together 200 aspiring youth leaders from 10 Fresno High Schools, 12 Fresno middle schools and many other schools from throughout Fresno County. This event provides the students an opportunity to meet and be mentored by local leaders and inspire them to become future agents of change in their community.

The opening session will feature PARCS Director Randall Cooper, Deputy Mayor Jeff Eben, County Supervisor Susan Anderson and motivational speaker Eduardo Gonzalez. These core presentations will focus on leadership and allow the students to come together and develop a youth voice on issues facing our communities. In addition, the students will participate in workshops to discuss critical issues such as gang violence, water conservation, drug abuse and internet violence.

These students were invited to participate because of their leadership potential and their commitment to school achievement. Many of the participants are also members of the PARCS Business Education Service Training (BEST) and Jr. BEST Programs that provide the students with free motivation, training and experience to guide them to higher education, employment and positive life choices. The symposium was initiated to encourage these youth to take active roles as community leaders and social entrepreneurs and help them establish strong community ties to guide them to choose future leadership roles in the Fresno community.
