Public Forum On Fresno’s Urban Forest
The City of Fresno’s Planning and Development Department and Tree Fresno are co-sponsoring a free public forum on Fresno’s Urban Forest, Wednesday April 2, 2008 from 4-5:30 pm in the City Council Chambers, 2600 Fresno Street. The event, “Fresno Green: Identifying and Preserving the Urban Forest” will also serve as a joint workshop for the City’s Planning and Historic Preservation Commissions.

The visionary “Fresno Green: The City of Fresno’s Strategy for Achieving Sustainability,” introduced last year by Mayor Alan Autry, includes provisions that address the importance of trees for shade, air quality, historic and aesthetic values. This workshop is intended to provide information to staff, commissioners and public alike on the health and economic benefits of the urban forest, existing tree ordinances, constraints and challenges in maintaining mature trees, and the evaluation of historic landscapes.

Speakers include Keith Bergthold (Assistant Director, Planning and Development Department), Sharon Kelly (Projects Director, Tree Fresno), Sophia Pagoulatos (Interim Planning Manager), Robert Boro (Landscape Architect) and Karana Hattersley-Drayton (City of Fresno Historic Preservation Project Manager). Following the formal presentations the speakers, joined by Hillary Kimber (Public Works) and Darrell Unruh (Planning Manager) will answer questions.
