FYI Passenger Traffic Soared in 2007
For the fifth consecutive year, Fresno Yosemite International enjoyed a historic number of passengers flowing through the airport. A record 1,318,483 passengers traveled through FYI in 2007, exceeding passenger traffic in 2006 by 3.13% - a prior record at 1,281,268 passengers.
The increase represents a continuing trend of annual passenger growth for the Airport and is well above the national annual increase of 1.4%.
In the month of December alone, passenger traffic increased 5.21% over the previous year with 111,453 passengers traveling through FYI, surpassing the December 2006 record total of 105,937 passengers.
In great part, this continuing growth is due to the success of international air service to Guadalajara, Mexico as well as the addition of new and expanded service to other desired domestic destinations. In addition, 2007 passengers enjoyed:
- new intrastate service on ExpressJet to Long Beach, Ontario, and San Diego
- seasonal flight frequencies by American Eagle, Mexicana, and United Express
- US Airways’ expanded seat capacity with its overall fleet transition to 86-seat jets
- US Airways’ upgrade to an Airbus A319 jet on the Las Vegas route
Higher passenger loads experienced by the other FYI-based airlines throughout the year also contributed to the record breaking passenger totals. Numbers are anticipated to remain high as FYI begins several dynamic projects on target to begin in 2008.
Currently, nine carriers offer Valley passengers 48 daily domestic and international departures from Fresno. FYI is a municipally owned entity operating as a self-supporting enterprise. No City of Fresno general funds are used to operate Fresno Yosemite International or Fresno Chandler Executive Airport.
