Improvement Projects Underway at FYI

On April 7, construction will begin on the much anticipated Airport Baggage Claim Expansion and Terminal Remodel projects. In addition to the expansion and remodel, the “Sense of Place” theming project, specifically designed to reflect the personality of the region with replicas of the nearby giant Sequoia trees, will also begin.

To minimize the impact to passenger baggage collection during the facility expansion, one baggage claim carousel will remain in service at all times. When completed, the baggage claim area will be double its current size with two modern, T-shaped baggage carousels replacing the current small in-wall units. Improvements to the existing rental car agency counters will complement the expansion by consolidating all six agencies along one wall.

In addition, construction will begin in the central terminal lobby along the security screening queuing line. This phase of the remodel is expected to have minimal impact on the security screening process. The remodeled terminal lobby will feature raised ceilings with efficient lighting, way-finding carpet motif throughout the terminal, the consolidation of the airlines along one wall, and other innovative enhancements designed to improve the overall customer experience.

Construction on the baggage claim expansion, terminal remodel, and “Sense of Place” is expected to be completed in the summer of 2009.
