07/11/07  City Of Fresno Hosts Town Hall Meeting For Residents To Learn About Universally Accessible Park
The City of Fresno Parks, Recreation & Community Services Department (PRCS) would like to invite the media to a Town Hall meeting where staff will share the details and vision of the City’s Universally Accessible Park project with the community. PRCS will distribute the project master plan, which features a one-of-akind universally accessible design that combines a Miracle League baseball field with a Shane’s Inspiration tot-lot, a universally accessible skate park and water world splash pad. The park’s universally accessible design will make it possible for all citizens, disabled and able-bodied, to recreate together. >more

07/11/07  Education Legislation AB 1403 Clears Senate Education Committee
Assembly Bill 1403, authored by Assembly member Juan Arambula, successfully made its way out of the Senate Education Committee today. The bill works to empower district superintendents to be effective leaders with guidance from their local county superintendent to provide our most troubled districts the tools and intensive support they need to help our kids advance academically. There are significant challenges with K-12 education throughout the Central Valley within our poorest communities that cannot be solved with well-intentioned onesize-fits-all categorical programs that originate in Sacramento and Washington. >more

07/06/07  Fresno Community Cooling Centers Will Be Open All Weekend
With the temperature expected to exceed 105 degrees on each of the next three days, the Cooling Centers will be open tonight, Saturday and Sunday. A reminder - the Centers will be open until 10:00 pm. In addition, Fresno Area Express will provide transportation to the closest center for residents via the scheduled bus routes, with weekend service schedules applicable. >more

07/06/07  Power Outage At Traffic Signals Requires 4-Way Stop
The City of Fresno, Traffic Engineering Division would like to remind motorists that pursuant to the California Vehicle Code, drivers are required to treat power outages at intersections with traffic signals as a full 4-way stop. Please drive at a speed that is safe for the driving conditions. If a roadway is dark reduce your speed to a safe traveling speed similar to driving in fog. >more

06/20/07  Valid Disabled Placard Investigation
The State of California Department of Motor Vehicles, in partnership with the City of Fresno Parking Services Division, has assembled a joint agency task force to investigate possible misuse of Disabled Person (Handicap) Placards in the downtown area. The first task force sweep took place today and periodic checks of downtown as well as other areas of the City will be conducted. State and local administrators receive calls on a regular basis from business owners and citizens, some of whom are disabled, concerning the large number of metered spaces that are occupied daily by people with handicap placards. >more
