Councilmember Xiong Receives Appointment by Governor
04/23/2007

In a press document released this (last) week, Councilmember Blong Xiong was appointed to serve on the CaliforniaVolunteers Commission by Governor Schwarzenegger.

CaliforniaVolunteers is the state commission charged with managing programs and initiatives to increase the number of Californians involved with service and volunteering. Through an innovative Web site, CaliforniaVolunteers.org, individuals and families have the ability to search for volunteer opportunities throughout the state that match their specific interests.

“This is a wonderful opportunity, not only to learn about the variety of volunteer options that might be incorporated in our community, but also a terrific opening for Fresno to share our ideas and the generosity of spirit in our citizens,” commented Xiong.

According to information published by CaliforniaVolunteers, there are over 25,000 volunteer opportunities available throughout California involving the arts, education, animals, disaster preparedness, the environment and other areas of interest.
