Mayor’s Jobs Initiatve Partners With Pacific Gas & Electric Company
07/30/2007

The City of Fresno Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services (PRCS) would like to invite the media to visit the Mayor’s Jobs Initiative (MJI) ‘PG&E Recruitment’ taking place Tuesday, July 31, 2007 from 9am to 4:30pm at the Radisson Hotel & Conference Center downtown where 300 pre-registered individuals will go through orientation, test and application process for Utility Worker.

This partnership with PG&E is the culmination of two successful program years for MJI. Since the fall of 2005, MJI has been successful at connecting 1,487 residents (mostly unemployed) to jobs. A major factor in this success has been the valuable partnerships staff established with representatives from the private sector, organized-labor, communitybased organizations, government agencies, and local education agencies. In addition, the professional MJI team offers employers a quality pre-screening of applicants, access to hundreds of potential employees, and a positive attitude to assist with any hiring need.

This PG&E recruitment is the prelude to the successful hiring that will take place at the 3rd Mayor’s Career and Education Expo on September 5, 2007 from 10am to 3pm at the Fresno Convention & Entertainment Center. Originally called the Mayor’s Job Fair, the Expo has grown from 69 employers to 135 employers and 15 education institutions. Last year’s Expo drew more than 5,000 attendees and successfully connected more than 900 individuals to employment.

PLEASE NOTE: PG&E Recruitment is FULL, job seekers can visit www.fresno.gov/mji for Expo info.
