Mayor To Attend Central California Mayors Conference
(FRESNO , CA May 16, 2006) – City of Fresno Mayor Alan Autry will travel to Stockton to attend the Central California Mayors Conference on Friday, May 19 th at the Stockton Arena.
Mayors, council members, city managers, county supervisors and county administrators from eleven counties will gather to discuss issues relevant to California’s central region.
Delegates attending the Conference will hear from guest speakers and take part in discussions. Guest speakers include:
Erik P. Justesen, RRM Design Group, will present on the topic of Sustainable Growth. His presentation will include an electronic voting component for the delegates. Mr. Justesen is a consultant with 23 years of experience in urban planning.
Barry R. Sedlik, Undersecretary and Senior Advisor for Economic Development, Business, Transportation and Housing Agency with the State of California, will discuss Transportation. Undersecretary Sedlik was appointed by Governor Schwarzenegger in April of 2004. He has responsibility for 13 State departments, including Caltrans, Department of Motor Vehicles, and California Highway Patrol.
Richard Cummings, Director of Research and Communications, with the Great Valley Center will discuss Regionalism. Mr. Cummings is responsible for media relations and publications that support the economic, social, and environmental well being of California’s Central Valley.
Thane A. Young, Vice President of Van Scoyoc Associates, Inc., will provide a Federal Update. Mr. Young is a lobbyist in Washington, D.C., representing the interests of local government and local government agencies, primarily in California.
Julie Snyder, Policy Director of Housing California, will discuss Workforce Housing. Ms. Snyder has extensive legislative experience. She now designs and implements legislative strategy for Housing California’s 1,000 members throughout California.
Michael Madrid, Director of Public Affairs with the League of California Cities will provide a Sacramento Update. Mr. Madrid is a lead strategist for campaigns at the local, state, and federal level. He is a nationally recognized expert on Latino demographics, voting patterns, and communications strategies.
The Central California Mayors Conference began in 2002 as a way for local mayors to talk about issues challenging Central California. One of the primary issues facing the entire region is rapid growth. Delegates work together to solve problems and share strategies for managing common issues. The Conference offers a forum to collaborate when addressing these issues with state and federal lawmakers.
The Conference will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, May 19, and will adjourn at 3:00 p.m. A Pre-conference reception will be held on Thursday, May 18, followed by an evening at the Stockton Ports game.
