City Of Fresno Department Of Transportation Offers Bicyclists Free Fares On Bike To Work Day

(FRESNO , CA May 17, 2006) – City of Fresno, Department of Transportation/Fresno Area Express (FAX) is partnering with the Fresno County Bicycle Coalition to encourage people to ride their bicycle to work on Friday, May 19, 2006.

Bicycling to work is healthy, smart, fast, clean, and fun. Commuting by bicycle keeps you fit and saves you money, it eliminates parking congestion, helps clean the air and is a great way to relieve stress. As the majority of commuters live miles away from their work destination, the City of Fresno FAX is offering free bus fare to those cyclists who choose to ride the bus as part of their commute. “As gas prices top the three dollar per gallon mark, traveling by bicycle or bus is becoming even more of an attractive commute alternative,” said Bruce Rudd, Interim Assistant City Manager.

Join cyclists and community leaders at 8:00am at the FAX Manchester Transit Center for a public bicycle ride to Kern Street Café for free coffee and bagels. The ride starts at 8:30am.
