City Of Fresno Budget Hearing Focuses On The Police Department And Public Utilities

(FRESNO , CA June 14, 2006) Fresno’s City Council focuses their attention on the proposed budget initiatives for the Fresno Police and Public Utility Departments for fiscal year 2006-2007on Thursday, June 15, beginning at 6:00 pm in Council Chambers at City Hall.

Police Chief, Jerry Dyer, will continue his presentation on the ‘smart policing’ initiatives that include video policing and the Mayor’s Gang Prevention Initiative, a proven, successful model that uses proactive and collaborative approaches to confronting gang violence and social problems facing at-risk youth and residents.

Public Utilities Director, Rene Ramirez, will present initiatives that include the formation of a Utility Rate Commission to study current utility rates and service delivery systems, in order to create a long-term, strategic plan that includes community education and outreach on current utility rate structures.

Additional projects include construction of the Organic Upgrade project; bridging the gap between current wastewater capacity and the next large expansion at the Wastewater Treatment plant.

Following the budget presentations, Mayor Autry will be present and available for one-on-one interviews to discuss his proposed budget initiatives as requested.
