An Invitation To The Community To Participate In Camp Fresno Improvement Plans
04/11/2006

(FRESNO , CA April 11, 2006) – The City of Fresno Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department is holding the second in a series of Town Hall meetings to coordinate plans for improving Camp Fresno, on Tuesday, April 11 th, 2006 at 5:30pm in the foyer of the Veterans Memorial Auditorium. Specific improvement projects have been identified and will be assigned to the various community groups and individuals that have volunteered their time. However, PRCS is still in need of further support from the community and welcomes contributions of skilled labor, materials or funding. Community groups joining the planning session include the ‘Friends of Camp Fresno,’ the Knights of Vartan and the Fresno Buddhist Church.

For over 75 years, Fresnans have escaped the summer heat by vacationing at Camp Fresno. It was back in 1928 that the City of Fresno first leased 65 acres of land from the U. S. Forest Service for the purpose of providing generations of Fresnans with an economical mountain get-away.

Camp Fresno is located along Dinkey Creek in the Sierras, approximately 15 miles east of Shaver Lake. The Camp has 58 ’one’ and ‘two’ bedroom cabins which are available for rent from Memorial Day through Labor Day. For large organized groups, such as churches, schools and lodges, the Camp Fresno Jr. facility includes two dorms, accommodating 40 people each, as well as three cabins for supervisors, a fully equipped kitchen, showers and dining platform.

Donations for Camp Fresno can be made out to Fresno United Neighborhoods, memo: ‘ Camp Fresno’ and mailed to 2326 Fresno St., Rm. #101, Fresno, CA 93721. For additional information, call 559-621-2900.
