Mayor Autry To Support Alternative School Accountability Model (Ab 2859) Before State Assembly Education Committee
(FRESNO , CA April 26, 2006) – Mayor Alan Autry will be testifying before the State Assembly Education Committee in Sacramento on Wednesday, April 26 at 5:00pm in support of the Alternative School Accountability Model (AB 2859) authored by Assemblymember Juan Arambula.
Mayor Autry stated, “This is one of the most important pieces of legislation in the history of our State. Local authority and accountability is essential if we are to meet the enormous education challenges facing our children. This bill is a huge step forward in that direction.”
The intent of AB 2859 is to provide maximum flexibility to school districts to allocate and redirect resources to increase pupil academic achievement, in a manner consistent with the district’s improvement plan.
