Application Assistance CenterIs Another “Hot Spot” Success At City Hall
03/15/2006

(FRESNO , CA March 15, 2006) – The City of Fresno improves customer service by streamlining application services for city planning and development at the newly created Application Assistance Center (AAC) “hot spot” located inside City Hall.

With drop-in assistance available Monday through Friday, 8am till 5pm, applicants filing conditional use permits, site plan reviews, rezoning, tentative maps, variances and other Planning and Development applications now have a centralized, one-stop location where City processing experts are available to help applicants resolve issues that could prevent the timely processing of their application. The newly created AAC saves time and application uncertainty as AAC processing experts review forms, fee schedules, submittal requirements, applicable policies and design standards with the applicant up front. This pre-submittal review process avoids the delays and additional costs associated with such requirements as traffic studies, noise studies, structural and other unforeseen work that could have been identified up front and included in the original project schedule at an earlier stage.

Mayor Alan Autry stated, “This new Application Assistance Center makes the permitting process easier. It is another great example of innovative collaboration where the City and local community are committed to supporting a healthy, diverse economy that encourages its business community.”

The Application Assistance Center is the third phase in a series of “hot spot” concepts created to improve customer service and support the business community in Fresno. In January 2006, the Mayor unveiled the proposed Municipal Restoration Zone (MRZ), which provides incentives for businesses who are located inside the MRZ; in February, the City of Fresno Economic Development Department rolled out FresnoStartUp.com, a web site featuring “ten steps” toward starting a business with links to local, State and Federal agencies that provide start up information for new businesses owners.

The Application Assistance Center is located on the third floor of City Hall in the Planning and Development Department, Room 3043. For more information on the Application Assistance Center process, contact the AAC Manager, Stratis Perros at (559) 621-8277.
