04/27/05  Fresno Police Department Awarded $1,224,751 To Investigate “Cold Cases” Of Homicide And Sexual Assault Through DNA Analysis
FRESNO, CA (April 27 , 2005) - Chief Jerry Dyer is pleased to announce that the United States Department of Justice has awarded the Fresno Police Department a $1,224,751 grant to investigate “Cold Cases” of homicide and sexual assault through the use of DNA analysis. The grant is awarded over three years and will allow the Department to devote resources to the investigation of cold cases of homicide and sexual assault with emphasis on the identification, apprehension and prosecution of violent offenders through improved DNA analysis. The Fresno Police Department will devote two investigators to cold cases where DNA evidence is most likely to be found and result in resolution of the crime and prosecution of the offender. >more

FRESNO,CA (January 6, 2005) - The City of Fresno has received notification from State Office of Emergency Services and the National Weather Service that predicted heavy rainfall for the Valley. Predictions are calling for an excess of two inches on the Valley floor, over the course of five days. The heaviest rainfall is predicted between Thursday -Sunday. >more

01/05/05  SBC Awards $50,000 to City of Fresno After School Program
FRESNO,CA (January 5, 2005) The City of Fresno is pleased to announce the Department of Parks, Recreation & Community Services (PRCS) has been awarded a grant in the amount of $50,000 from The SBC Foundation for the development of the Fresno BEST computer lab. The grant will fund a lab with 20 computer stations equipped with the latest in computer technology, staffing and technology training for at-risk youth in Fresno. The lab will be a critical component of the PRCS after school Fresno BEST (Business Education Service Training) program which was developed to provide enhanced computer training, financial literacy, business skills, field trips and job shadowing for Fresno youth. >more
