Mayor Autry Receives the American LungAssociation’s 2005 Good Government Award

FRESNO , CA ( July 13, 2005) – Today Deputy Mayor Roger Montero accepted the American Lung Association’s 2005 Good Government Award on behalf of Mayor Alan Autry. Mayor Autry is the first individual in the Valley to receive this award. The award recognizes an individual, agency or employer who has contributed significantly to the cause of lung health through positive government action which impacts our service area. Upon receiving news of the award Mayor Autry stated, “Our Valley’s air quality is paramount to all who call the San Joaquin Valley home. I’m both honored and humbled by this recognition, and wish to thank the members of Team Fresno who are working collaboratively to improve our air quality.” Jossette Merced Bello Presidnet/CEO of the American Lung Association of Central California stated, “ The American Lung Association of Central California was delighted to present this award to Mayor Autry today and to recognize his efforts and commitment to improve air quality in the San Joaquin Valley.”

Mayor Autry continues to be a strong voice for air quality improvement calling for balanced and effective emission reductions. Mayor Autry was a guiding force in the origin and development of Operation Clean Air and remains a big supporter. Additionally, the Mayor received on behalf of the City of Fresno, the 2005 Clean Cities Award. The award recognized the City for its leadership in usage of alternative fuels and clean air technology within a municipal fleet and the displacement of petroleum use.
