But, how long should you water your lawn to ensure it is receiving adequate water during the hottest part of the summer?

During peak summer heat, the City recommends the following guide for the approximate length of time to water your lawn during your three-day per week watering schedule.

For Warm Season Grass (ex: Bermuda)

Spray Sprinkler
Depending on drainage characteristics:

June: 34 minutes a week/ 11 minutes a day
July: 43 minutes a week/ 14 minutes a day
August: 35 minutes a week/ 12 minutes a day
September: 22 minutes a week/7 minutes a day

For Cool Season Grass (ex: Fescue)

Spray Sprinkler
Depending on drainage characteristics:

June: 58 minutes a week/ 19 minutes a day
July: 63 minutes a week/ 21 minutes a day
August: 46 minutes a week/ 15 minutes a day
September: 29 minutes a week/ 9 minutes a day

If the Valley is experiencing a cool Summer, the watering times can be cut down to as much as half.

The approximate lawn watering times are based on the Summer Watering Schedule of the three days per week customers are allowed to water.

Also, remember to set your timer "off the hour" to help save energy, for example, 9:48 pm or 2:17 am. This will help alleviate the heavy burden put on our water supply at "on the hour" times.
