Andrew T. Souza Appointed City Manager

FRESNO,CA (February 22, 2005) - Mayor Autry is proud to announce Andrew T. Souza’s appointment as City Manager. Mayor Autry said “Andy’s long term commitment to our community will serve to benefit the people of Fresno enormously.” The Mayor believes Souza’s leadership will carry the City forward in a fiscally responsible direction, while ensuring the people of Fresno get the very best possible service.

Andrew T. Souza has 19 years of executive management experience with the City of Fresno. His tenure with the City includes nearly four years as Assistant City Manager as well as service as Interim City Manager for Mayor Autry and former Mayor Jim Patterson. His prior experience includes eight years as the City’s Controller, with the last 4 of those years serving as the Controller/Director of Administrative Services.

Throughout his career with the City, Mr. Souza has provided strong leadership and strategic planning combined with solid fiscal administration. He has been the lead on some of the Mayor’s key initiatives including implementing the City towards its new normal of outcome focused government and, the outsourcing of the City’s Convention Center operations. Mr. Souza has been involved in committees for both the Governmental Finance Officers Association (GFOA) and the League of California Cities. He’s also made presentations to various professional organizations, and has been a presenter at the GFOA National Conference.

In addition to his service to the City of Fresno, Mr. Souza is currently on the Board of the United Way of Fresno County. Souza has previously served in elected positions on the Kingsburg City Council and the Caruthers Elementary School Board. He has also served on the Board of Directors for Valley Teen Ranch, with terms as Board President and Treasurer, and has taught courses at Fresno Pacific University. Mr. Souza has also coached various youth sports, including softball, soccer, and baseball.

Andy is married to Marcia and they have three children, Robyn, Kevin, and Trent, and a son-in-law, Bryan .
