Tulare Street To Be Closed To Replace Water Main

FRESNO, CA (July 6 , 2004) Starting Friday, July 9, 2004, crews will begin the replacement of a 12-inch water main in Tulare Street between Van Ness and “O” Street in Downtown Fresno. Major construction is scheduled for completion by mid-August, with intermittent lane closures scheduled for later in August when water service connections are transferred over to the new water main.

The original water main was installed in 1936 and requires replacement in order to maintain adequate water service and fire protection to Downtown Fresno. During construction, portions of westbound Tulare Street between Van Ness and “O” Street will be closed to through traffic. Westbound traffic will be detoured to Fresno Street .

Motorists using “M” Street will be able to cross Tulare Street during weekdays between 7:00am and 6:00pm , but vehicles will not be able to cross the Tulare Street median at “L” or “N” Street during construction.
