City Of Fresno To Dedicate New Surface Water Treatment Facility
09/14/2004

FRESNO, CA (September 14 , 2004) On Thursday, September 16 at 11:00 a.m., the City of Fresno Department of Public Utilities, Water Division and local dignitaries will dedicate the new Surface Water Treatment Facility to the Fresno community.

The Surface Water Treatment Facility will supply thousands of homes in Northeast Fresno, roughly 20 million gallons of water every day, representing at least 15% of Fresno’s summer water needs. In the winter months, the facility will deliver 30% of Fresno’s water needs.

This will help stabilize Fresno’s groundwater resources which prior to the facilities introduction were decreasing by as much as three feet per year.

The primary service area of the facility encompasses Copper Avenue to the north; Willow Avenue to the east; Audobon Avenue to the west and Shepard Avenue to the south. In winter months, the delivery area will extend to Sierra Avenue to the south.

The Surface Water Treatment Facility is the result of over a decade of planning on a local and regional scale.
