Road Project To Close Major Sections Of Copper Avenue

FRESNO, CA (June 17, 2004) Thanks to a cooperative effort between 5 major developers (Gary McDonald, De Young Communities, The McCaffrey Group, Leo Wilson Inc., Copper River Ranch LLC) and the City of Fresno, the installation of new sewer, water, and storm drain mains will begin Thursday, June 24, 2004 on Copper Avenue between Friant Road and the Chestnut Avenue alignment.

Upon the completion of the underground utilities, crews will construct street improvements along Copper Avenue with curbs, gutters, sidewalks, paving and raised concrete median islands.

These combined joint effort projects will last approximately 2 ½ months instead of conducting 5 separate closures lasting between 4 to 6 weeks each. Therefore, these coordinated projects will reduce the length of closure by 9 to19 weeks.

Between June 24 and September 10, Copper Avenue will be closed to thru traffic from Millbrook to Willow . Willow and Friant Road traffic will be detoured to Shepherd Avenue . Copper Avenue will remain open to local traffic only between Willow and Chestnut Avenue . This closure will last 2 ½ months, 24 hours a day .

Between June 28 and July 20, Millbrook Avenue will be closed to thru traffic between Friant Road and Lakeview Avenue . Traffic will be detoured to Friant Road . Millbrook Avenue will remain open to local traffic only between Friant Road and Olympic Avenue. This closure will last 4 weeks, 24 hours a day .

Motorists may wish to use alternate routes during construction of this project to avoid delays.

Estimated completion date of this project is mid-September 2004.
