Safety Trailer Set to Help Teach Life Saving Lessons

Fresno, CA (February 9, 2007) – Today the Fresno City Fire Department is be debuting its new Fire Safety Trailer at Bakman Elementary School (580 N. Helm Ave.) from 12:30p.m. – 2:30p.m., as part of Burn Prevention Week. The Fire Safety Trailer was purchased with Federal grant dollars, a donation from the Fresno Fire Chief’s Foundation, and is apart of both the Department’s and Central Valley Safe Kids Coalition efforts provide kids a hands-on approach to Fire Safety. One of the most important uses of the Fire Safety Trailer is the ability to simulate smoke conditions in a bedroom type setting. Non-Toxic Smoke simulates smoke in a sleeping area. The emphasis on this simulation is awareness of the environment around you and of having multiple means of escape.
Safety lessons include:
• Don’t Play with Matches & Lighters
• Install Smoke Alarms in the home
• Don’t Hide, Get Outside
• Once Outside, Stay Outside
• Have an Escape Plan and Practice
• Have a Planned Family Meeting Place
• To Escape a Fire, “Fall and Crawl”
• If you’re on Fire, “Stop, Drop & Roll”
• Don’t be Afraid of Firefighters
• Know two exits out of every room
• Meet your family in the place where you planned
• Know your local emergency number (911)
• Residential Sprinkler Safety
