Honoring the Accomplishments of Fresno’s Bravest

Fresno, CA (July 30, 2007) – The Fresno Fire Department is holding a Promotional Ceremony honoring 17 members promoted to Captain and Engineer. The ceremony will be held at City Council Chambers on Monday, July 30, 2007 at 0900 hours. Reception immediately following 2nd floor, Foyer, City Hall, 2600 Fresno St.

Fire Captains are the first line supervisory class in the fire service. Generally assigned to supervise a firehouse, and crew of 2-3 firefighters. Captains are often called on to supervise the activities of a fire company with responsibilities for commanding a fire or emergency scene until relieved by a superior officer. Additionally, these fire service leaders are tasked with leading technical rescue or hazardous materials teams.

Fire Engineers are responsible for driving fire apparatus to fire incidents and emergency calls; prepares for pumping operations and pumps water to fire at proper pressure; operates ladder trucks.

Additionally, these highly trained professionals are trained to detect hazardous conditions or violations of fire and building ordinances and laws. Engineers are also called on to investigates causes of fires, search for evidence of arson or of fire code violations.
