Future Funding For A New Dam At Temperance Flat

At an October 10 rally to promote Propositions
1A-E, Senate President Pro Tem Don Perata publicly opened the door to future funding for a new dam on the San Joaquin River.  Mayor Autry and Governor Schwarzenegger were both in attendance to support the Propositions and were happy to hear of this new possibility from the Senator.  Funding for this project had previously been cut from legislation.

Telling the Fresno Story

It is no secret that Mayor Autry loves Fresno and wants the rest of the world to know what a great place it is to live, work and play!

As part of the Media Action Plan for Fresno to tell our story, the City Council recently agreed to contract with a publicist to take the story of Fresno to  national publications. The City Council and the Office of the Mayor will work with the publicist to tout our diversity, unique lifestyles and business viability of our City. Our goal is to let the rest of the world know that we are a destination location with ample opportunity for all those who live, work, recreate and vacation here.

Utility Commission Takes On Critical Challenge

In an effort to formulate a strategic plan for the future of utility services in our City, Mayor Alan Autry, together with the City Council, formed a Utility Commission comprised of eleven members from the community.

The goal of the Volunteer Commission is to analyze all areas of utility services provided by the City and present their detailed analysis together with their final recommendations to maintain the current level of utility services, as well as provide the necessary funding for maintenance while supporting the continuted growth of the community to the Mayor and City Council by the end of November.

On Wednesday, September 6, Mayor Autry attended the meeting to clarify and commend the importance of the Commission's task at hand. Mayor Autry stated, "When you're formulating solutions to this situation, be mindful of those who will ultimately be affected by it. Do the best job you can to get the right rate, no less and no more than we need."

Expanding Voluntary Drug Testing

In a recent press conference, Mayor Autry commended Central Unified and Clovis Unified school districts for adopting a voluntary drug testing program and encouraged Fresno Unified to adopt the program for their parents and students.

The intent of this program is to create important dialog between parents and their children regarding drug abuse.  The City of Fresno Parks, Recreation and Community Services department has made similar drug testing kits available to interested parents for a minimal charge of five dollars.

This program works to provide a resource tool to empower parents who have concerns regarding their children?s behavior due to substance abuse.

For more information on the drug test kits, contact City Parks, Recreation and Community Services department at (559) 621-2900.

The Govenors Visit

Governor Schwarzenegger paid a second visit to Fresno in October, meeting with members of his cabinet, Mayor Autry, other Valley elected officials and business owners at the meeting of the California Partnership for the San Joaquin Valley. Thanking those in attendance for their hard work, the Governor specifically acknowledged Mayor Autry for bringing the needs of the Valley to the Governor?s attention during his first election campaign.

The Governor also reinforced Senator Perata?s statements from their previous visit in support of the Infrastructure Bond measures 1A-E in the upcoming election.  At the end of his remarks, Governor Schwarzenegger promised Mayor Autry to fight alongside Senator Perata in the next budget for funding of above ground water storage in the Valley.
