Affordable Housing is in our Grasp |
|
In an effort to provide additional affordable housing to the community, Mayor Autry formed the 10 x 10 Blue Ribbon Committee designed specifically to develop a plan that will create 10,000 affordable housing units by the year 2010. At the December meeting of the Committee, a progress report was given to the Mayor that included input from each specialized subcommittee which provideds possible solutions toward achieving its goal of 10,000 units. Issues such as forming public-private partnerships to achieve smart growth, urban reinvestment, in-fill, transitional housing developments, expanded affordable housing resources and coordinated regional land use and transportation policies were discussed. Mayor Autry stated, “This alliance is a reflection of the newfound mindset that we are a big city and we are finally beginning to act like it. I am totally and completely convinced that we can get there and it is because of the efforts of this group.” The 10 x 10 Committee was granted sixty more days before submitting their final report so that they can test the feasibility of their ideas.
