Office Of The Film Commissioner
FY 2006-2007 Proposed Budget: $100,000
Economic Development is a priority for the City of Fresno. For years, the City has tried to diversify its economic base and attract additional dollars to the region. Film production is a lucrative, relatively easy economic development tool for the City. A recent article in Western Cities magazine, the publication of the League of California Cities, cites the benefits of attracting film production to an area. Not only does the City benefit from the permit fees paid by studios, but the filming production supports jobs in the region through the services used during filming. These can include lodging, catering, restaurants, dry cleaning, gas, electricity, and a host of other items that support the City’s local economy. In addition, filming on location in Fresno brings recognition to the area, spawning tourism to the region, a secondary benefit to the City.
