STATE OF CALIFORNIA TURF AND TOILET REBATES
The residential turf rebate program is accepting applications for homeowners to reserve funds. The program will rebate up to $2 per square foot for lawn replacement to water-efficient landscaping and has an overall budget of $24 million from Proposition 1 funding. The easiest way to complete the application is online at:
Funding reservations are on a first-come, first-served basis for up to $2,000 per household through state or local turf replacement programs.
Consumers are eligible to replace turf that is living or dead (but not bare earth) at the time of the rebate application. The application process will require measurement of the area to be re-landscaped, a copy of the most current water bill, and 5 pictures of the area to be re-landscaped. Most importantly, projects cannot have begun before the approval is received after application. More information on the program can be found at the website under About the Program.
In addition to the rebate program, DWR has added links to useful resources to guide home owners in planning their re-landscaping projects. The links provide guidance on how to
remove your turf, as well as planning and implementing your project. These links are on
DWR’s turf webpage at:
A second rebate program offers rebates of up to $100 per household to replace one old toilet (greater than 1.6 gallons per flush) with a new, high-efficiency toilet (1.28 gallons per flush or less). The $6 million toilet rebate program, also
funded through Proposition 1, will help Californians replace approximately 60,000 old, inefficient toilets. These rebates are also available at:
